Aamna brings 10 years of experience in audiology to our team, following her studies at the University of Leeds, where she qualified in 2015. In 2016, she completed advanced wax removal training at Aston University. Aamna thrives on managing complex cases and is passionate about crafting personalised solutions for her patients. She steadfastly believes in evidence-based practice, and places a strong emphasis on educating patients so they can make informed decisions about their hearing health. Outside of practice, Aamna enjoys crocheting, gaming, cooking, and cherishing quality time with her husband—especially when they’re spending moments with friends and family.

Adam – affectionately known by some around the practice as...

Adam – affectionately known by some around the practice as ‘Mantis’ – has been part of the Joseph Hayes Opticians team since September 1998. He began his career in a dispensing and glazing role and gained further experience working in two independent practices in Edinburgh before returning to the Shire, where he also introduced the popular Lindberg eyewear brand to the practice. With a personable and light-hearted approach, Adam enjoys helping patients find their perfect eyewear, combining technical expertise with a genuine passion for independent, high-quality brands. Outside of the practice, Adam is a keen surfer and enjoys dining out. Despite claiming not to enjoy running, he continues to challenge himself by taking part in 10k and half marathon events.

Adam has worked in the optical industry for 35 years and has been with the practice since it first opened in 1992. With a wealth of experience in both the technical and style aspects of eyewear dispensing, he takes great pride in helping patients choose the perfect frames and lenses to suit both their visual needs and personal style. Adam particularly enjoys the fashion side of his role, firmly believing that a frame should be an extension of one’s personality – something that not only enhances vision but also reflects individual character and confidence. Outside of work, Adam enjoys gardening, family life, and spending time outdoors with his two much-loved dogs: Arnold, a French bulldog, and Dali, a lively Spanish Water Dog puppy.

Samantha has been a valued member of Joseph Hayes Opticians since 1994 and qualified as a dispensing optician in 1999. With a strong work ethic and years of experience, she takes particular pride in providing personalised care, especially when dispensing to young children and elderly patients. Her warm and approachable nature, combined with her attention to detail, ensures every patient receives the highest standard of service. Outside of work, Samantha leads a busy family life, often taking on the unofficial roles of chauffeur and head chef for her children. In her spare time, she enjoys walking her dogs, exploring new places, gardening, travelling (with a particular love for cruises), and socialising with friends and family.

Sarah has been a valued member of the Joseph Hayes Opticians team for over 20 years. She manages the on-site glazing laboratory, overseeing the production of all eyewear and ensuring every pair of glasses is made to the highest possible standard. Sarah began her career in optics as an Optical Assistant at the age of 16, before moving into glazing at 22. She later specialised in hand-glazing rimless and bespoke eyewear, an area where her precision and attention to detail truly shine. Her extensive experience and technical expertise are essential to maintaining the practice’s reputation for quality craftmanship. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time in her garden, caring for her large fish tank, and looking after a variety of animals – reflecting her love of nature and the outdoors.

Sue has worked in the optical industry for nearly 36 years and has been a valued member of Joseph Hayes Opticians since the practice first opened in June 1992. Over the decades, she has gained extensive experience across all areas of optics, including spectacle dispensing, contact lens fitting and teaches, as well as practice administration and reception duties. Known for her conscientious nature and warm approachable manner, Sue is particularly dedicated to providing attentive, compassionate service to all patients, with a special rapport with elderly customer. She takes pride in being part of a long-established, close knit-team committed to delivering outstanding patient care. Outside of work, Sue enjoys spending time outdoors, caring for her horse and riding through the beautiful surrounding countryside. She also treasures quality time with her family.

Sumera has worked in the optical profession for over 10 years. She began her career by studying Ophthalmic Dispensing before going on to complete a degree in Optometry at Aston University, qualifying as an optometrist in 2018. Dedicated to ongoing professional development, Sumera holds a Professional Certificate in medical retina and has recently completed her Professional Certificate in Glaucoma. She is also MECS (Minor Eye Conditions Service) accredited, enabling her to manage minor eye conditions and offer enhanced clinical care to patients. Sumera is passionate about providing thorough, patient-focused eye care and enjoys the opportunity to build lasting relationships with those she looks after. Outside of the practice, Sumera enjoys photography, staying active, and making the most of each day.

Taras joined Joseph Hayes Opticians following the retirement of Joe and Alison and brings over 13 years of experience as a qualified optometrist, having graduated from Aston University in 2012. He is a specialist in dry eye management and has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of dry eye conditions. Taras is also highly skilled in MECS (Minor Eye Conditions Service) assessments and all aspects of contact lens fitting. In addition to his clinical expertise, Taras has a particular interest in visual stress therapy, working closely with children to help improve their visual comfort and reading performance. Outside of practice, he enjoys spending quality time with his family and keeping active through running.
